Hestia Big Day Out

This August, Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), was proud to have been a part of Hestia’s Big Day Out. Hestia is one of TMHCCI’s UK charity partners who provide safety and support to adults and children in times of crisis, with their 950 volunteers helping over 19,000 of society’s most vulnerable people last year, including:

  • Victims of modern slavery and domestic abuse
  • People suffering from poor mental health and addiction issues

  • Individuals with learning and physical disabilities

  • Older people in day centres and their own homes

  • People reintegrating into society from prison
Hestia Big Day Out 2024

Every year they hold their Big Day Out, an event for mothers and children who access Hestia’s domestic violence and modern slavery services. It is a chance for these people to have at least one day where the focus is on fun. The event was a huge success with over 350 people coming together, 160 women and children, 124 volunteers, partners and visitors attending. One of the mums that attended said:

“I knew it was going to be an amazing afternoon but didn't quite realise how fun! Kids of all ages were catered for and every person I spoke to said it was the best day of the summer holidays.”

TMHCC were there with twelve colleagues manning the Buzz Wire, Balloon Pop and Ring Toss stands, helping the kids make the most of their day out. One of the volunteers said:

“Volunteering with Hestia at their annual BIG DAY OUT was fantastic, it was amazing to see so many families and children enjoying the array of activities put on and making lots of happy memories. Brilliantly organised by Hestia who really put everything into organising a relaxed, safe and fun day for all!”

As well as the games, competitions and entertainment that was put on, to help everyone find their way around and make the most of their day, the TMHCCI Marketing Team designed and produced a map of the site to make sure nobody missed a thing.

We have a well-developed charity programme at TMHCCI, and the Big Day Out is just one example of the support we provide. Whilst we give financial support through colleague fundraising and direct corporate donations, it is often the time we give that delivers the greatest benefit to these organisations. Studies have shown that 80% of employees felt happier from volunteering activities, so it is a win/win situation for everyone.

Volunteering is one of the key ways our employees show their support for charities. Last year, 302 members of the TMHCC International team spent a combined 1,329 hours rolling up their sleeves and volunteering, participating in a wide range of activities to support local communities. Building on this momentum, we’re delighted to have doubled our number of volunteers in 2024 as we aim to provide even greater support this year. Find more information here
