London to Paris in four days

Being part of a company the size of Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) comes with lots of benefits but it also comes with big responsibilities – to our brokers, clients and the communities we work in. The charity work we undertake as a business is a key part of those responsibilities.

Professional Risks London to Paris Bike Challenge

We are exceptionally proud of our charity programme that unites the initiatives we undertake across the business, fundraising, volunteering and raising awareness. We help our employees support the causes that matter to them in a variety of ways, including financially through our match funding initiative.

The latest and one of the most challenging charity drives was spearheaded by members our Professional Risks team. Matt Clayton, Head of Technology, Bryn Howard, Underwriter and Harry Tasker, Underwriting Assistant who cycled from London to Paris to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Setting off on the 4 September, they arrived in Paris four days later, having covered 400 miles and raised nearly £9,000 including a match donation from TMHCCI.

The British Heart Foundation’s vision is for a world free from the fear of heart and circulatory diseases and they raise money to research cures and treatments. Today, there are around 7.6 million people in the UK living with a heart or circulatory disease, the support that we and many others provide has never been more important. The statistics are startling – every day, 480 people will die from a heart of circulatory disease, 270 people will be admitted to hospital following a heart attack and 13 babies will be diagnosed with a heart defect.

Commenting on the challenge the trio said: “We wanted to put our bodies to the test to help others but we needed a challenge that was worthy of your donations. So, thank you to everyone who supported us as we know that by supporting the British Heart Foundation, our London to Paris cycling adventure will have a big impact on so many lives.”

Heart disease has a huge impact across society and we are so proud of Matt, Bryn and Harry for undertaking this huge feat to help support the Foundation.
