London Market takes on the Snowdon Triple Challenge

Supporting our communities and raising money for our charities is just part of how we do business at Tokio Marine HCC International. There’s always some kind of charity work going on somewhere in the business but some are such a challenge that they deserve a special mention.

One such event was recently undertaken by 29 members of the London Market team who headed to Wales to bike, hike and kayak their way through Snowdonia National Park. They were raising money for Young Lives Vs Cancer, an organisation that offers emotional, practical and financial support to young cancer patients and their families.

Their trip through Snowdonia may sound like a nice afternoon out but when you consider the fact they cycled 17km through the park before hiking a further 14km up and down Snowdon and finished it all off by kayaking 4km across Llyn Padarn, the scale of the challenge becomes clear. Their sunup to sundown efforts were well worthwhile though with over £11,000 raised for Young Lives Vs Cancer.

Sarah Cracroft, Underwriting Manager – Marine Trades, said: “What can I say? It was an amazing, exhausting challenge. The team brought fabulous energy and were capable of more than we could of imagined in one day. Confidence, inspiration, and the commitment of 29 colleagues on the arduous triple challenge. I’m proud to have been part of this group.”

Every year, over 6,000 young cancer patients access the charity’s broad range of services – everything from day to day emotional and financial support to providing in-home care and long term assistance. Tania Ansell, Fundraising Engagement Manager at Young Lives Vs Cancer, said: “By giving your all to support Young Lives vs Cancer, not only are you helping us be there for families like yours, you’re helping us create a future where no child nor young person goes through their cancer journey alone. That’s such a powerful thing that your support makes possible.”

The £11,000 the team raised goes a long way to ensuring more young cancer patients receive the care and support they need in the most challenging times. It’s easy to get swept up in the day to day of work and forget the impact that we can all have, individually and collectively, so well done to the team – a huge reward for a huge effort made.
