Tell us about your role and why you chose (re)insurance…

I am part of the highly successful treaty reinsurance team, helping to drive the business forward, grow and achieve greater success collaboratively. The business is expected to write over $450m of premium income in 2024 with the line I look after, International Catastrophe’s excess of loss, contributing around $175m of this. I am responsible for several of the largest territories within the treaty portfolio including Europe and Australasia, building strong relationships with many brokers and clients in these regions and around the world.

I chose to further my career in reinsurance because I was drawn to the dynamic energy and collaborative atmosphere of the Lloyd’s marketplace. What truly inspires me about this sector is its strong emphasis on relationship-building. In reinsurance, we are part of a people-focused industry, and I love that my role revolves around cultivating and maintaining meaningful, long-lasting partnerships.

What impact have you had on our reinsurance business since joining TMHCC?

As the first recruit to the team following the establishment of the treaty reinsurance book at the beginning of 2010, I have been able to shape the business line into the high performing unit we see today. Using my understanding of my clients' businesses and risk profiles, I have been able to tailor and develop reinsurance products, to provide optimal coverage and solvency solutions.

One initiative I led on developing an international pricing tool. This tool takes into account validations of vendor models as well as client’s and TMHCC’s view of risk. By implementing this tool, the team now has a more comprehensive understanding of the pricing dynamics and associated risks, enabling us to make better decisions faster.

I pride myself on my determination, particularly when it comes to achieving greater efficiency. My push to streamline the end-to-end processes involved in the teams’ operations, rating and risk assessment has allowed us to continue growing our book of business every year.

How do you ensure the team succeeds?

Helping junior employees handle stress and large workloads is critical to success, so I always make time to help and educate other members of the team, allowing them to perform at their best. I am a staunch advocate of fostering an inclusive leadership style, creating a sense of belonging within the team and empowering others to contribute their unique perspectives and talents.

I also prioritise personally mentoring members of the treaty team and getting involved in TMHCC’s Accelerate programme – an initiative for young insurance professionals to give them the tools to progress rapidly within the business. I feel it is an honour to leverage what I have learnt during my career to guide and empower the next generation of aspiring leaders.

Your recent win at Business Insurance’s Women to Watch awards highlighted how you help other women, can you tell us more about that?

When I entered the reinsurance industry, it was clear that most senior roles were held by men, reflecting a largely male-dominated market. However, TMHCC acknowledged the importance of advancing women within the organisation and launched the “Elevating Women in Leadership” programme. This initiative built a supportive community for me to thrive in and taught me the necessity for networking with other women to share experiences, challenges and strategies for success.

With TMHCC’s encouragement, I took these lessons with me throughout my career and continued to help women grow in insurance. I feel it is invaluable to transfer my knowledge and wisdom on to the younger generation which is the key reason for my involvement in the firm’s Women’s Network Group and why I am now a mentor to the younger women in my team, helping them navigate challenges and build confidence.
