See all the news storiesAt Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI), we recognise the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace. This February, we took part in LGBT+ History Month, an annual opportunity to reflect on the contributions of LGBT+ individuals throughout history and their role in shaping society.
For over 20 years, LGBT+ History Month has celebrated achievements across various fields, highlighting those who have influenced social progress. This year’s theme, Activism and Social Change, focused on individuals who have driven positive change through advocacy, public engagement, or simply by living authentically in the face of adversity.
As part of our activities for the month, we hosted a Lunch and Learn session in partnership with Facing History and Ourselves (FHAO), one of our charity partners. FHAO promotes historical understanding, critical thinking, and social-emotional learning through the lens of diverse communities. Their programmes provide valuable insight into the experiences of these communities, fostering meaningful conversations on identity and representation.
During the session, we explored the evolving perceptions of sexuality, gender, and the challenges faced by individuals and the challenges individuals faced throughout history. We also highlighted historical figures – Ivor Cummings, Billie Jean King, and Octavia Hill– who each played a role in shaping a more inclusive society through their actions.
The event brought together employees from across the business, encouraging open discussions and new perspectives. By taking time to reflect and learn, we continue to build an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
