Over the past year, TMHCCI has developed a comprehensive support framework tailored to the unique needs of individuals facing fertility challenges. Our initiative involved people from across the business and included everything from training and awareness to the introduction of fertility checks and one-on-one nutritional advice, as part of our benefits package. This support is crucial, as research shows that one in six of us will experience fertility issues at some point in our lives.
The impact of fertility treatment on careers and mental health is significant. According to Fertility Matters at Work, 93% of women undergoing fertility treatment reported career impacts, 90% suffered anxiety and depression, and 70% had to take sick leave. Recognising these challenges, Kelly Clark, Head of UK Compliance, and Camilla Gower, Head of Marine Energy and Liability, led the initiative to bring positive change to TMHCCI.
Their leadership, combined with the passion and input of colleagues, has helped to shape a holistic and compassionate programme of support. These efforts mean that TMHCCI employees now have access to a growing range of resources and insights, along with new policies to support those undergoing fertility treatment and those who may have experienced loss at any stage of pregnancy.
Beyond direct support, the working group established by Camilla and Kelly has also been raising awareness of the physical and emotional impact of fertility issues on both partners. They have provided learning and support tools for managers and employees to better support their colleagues.
Receiving this accreditation isn’t the end of our journey. It gives us the confidence that we are on the right path and delivering the kind of support needed. Fertility Matters at Work have been incredibly supportive and helpful throughout this journey and we’ll continue to work with them to ensure our programme meets the evolving needs of our employees.
